Closing the Doors

Writer's picture: BrazenExplorerBrazenExplorer

"Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open." — Alexander Graham Bell

I’m the kind of girl who

left too many opened doors.

Till it was time to close them all,

no more saboteurs.

It’s not that any of them

were really bad, you see.

But there’s no love lost here,

that I can guarantee.

I’m my own worst enemy

with matters of the heart.

So hear me out with my story,

in all or in just part.

My tales are true,

how many lessons relearned.

Just sought after love,

leaving no stone unturned.

It all started many years ago

with one dear old ‘friend.’

We had such a good thing,

then oh what a bitter end.

He’d long since moved away,

we’d be parted for years.

To reconnect after decades

among the castles and piers.

Then there was the guy

with the sweet poker face.

Easily swayed by his warm kiss,

touch and embrace.

What he lacked in connection,

some may not mind.

But for me, in his lack of presence,

I had to decline.

Another good lover

unfortunately needed disposal.

I was not a priority, and

would never see a betrothal.

Reconnected sometime later,

on an exotic getaway.

Saying no to his advances,

I’d do the same today.

A player or two has

charmed me now and again.

Like the sporty businessman

who always had a plan.

Those plans didn’t include me,

still so hard to resist.

He came calling again,

and I said, no thanks narcissist.

The boy toy was fun,

whenever he was available.

Though he’d always run,

deeming himself unobtainable.

We had good sexy times, a

nd pure magnetic synergy.

All take, no give, grew old...

so now just a memory.

Dark foreign man

you love bombed me like crazy.

Great sex, gifts and pleasures

trying to tame me.

But when your possessiveness

reared its ugly head.

Had to get away, and

find someone better instead.

Perhaps some doors were

left wide open for too long.

But now I’ve closed them all,

and learned to be strong.

Just take it from me,

life offers many a second chance.

Doors closed, all ties are broken,

it's time for true romance!

I find most joy when I'm in communion with the ocean, or most any body of water (if you hadn't already figured that out from the many references in my writing).

Exploring new cultures through travel, or immersing with all the senses with the men I've loved, is pure pleasure, and lingers in beautiful poetic memories indefinitely.  Read More
